Asheville S&S On the Go

Asheville, North Carolina is the ideal mountain escape. In the midst of the Great Smoky Mountains, this city is a must visit, with its eclectic vibes, picturesque views, and miles of adventure. If you’re planning your first trip here, you’re in for a treat. Here is our ultimate travel guide for your first time in Asheville.

1. Biltmore Estate:

We have to start our list with one of the most popular spots in NC, the Biltmore Estate. The Biltmore Estate is America’s largest privately-owned home. Make sure to plan a full day here because there’s so much to do on the grounds. First, tour this breathtaking mansion, built by George Vanderbilt. Make sure to do a little shopping in the gift shop for some NC staples. Next, stroll through stunning gardens. Lastly, for all my wine lovers, taste some of their delicious wines produced on the estate.

2. Downtown Asheville:

If you can, we recommend that you stay downtown Asheville to get the full experience of Asheville entertainment and food district. Downtown is full of charming stores, restaurants, and has a fun night life with blocks of breweries. We recommend once you check into your hotel, drop into one of those breweries like Wicked Weeds Brewing or Bold Rock Ciderworks for a quick bite to eat and a delicious local brew. Take time to explore each unique shop and end the night with local live music at one of these various bars.

3. Blue Ridge Parkway:

You can’t come to Asheville and not take a slow drive through the Blue Ridge Parkway. Known as “America’s Favorite Drive,” the Blue Ridge Parkway is a beautiful escape through the mountains. We recommend driving the parkway to Craggy Mountain, which is only about 30 minutes outside of Asheville. You can take a short hike to the Craggy Pinnacle, all for free. This is a great way to experience the parkway and see the great views at the top of the mountain.

4. Cherokee:

Cherokee is a must see if you are in the area. About a 45 minute drive outside of Asheville, Cherokee is rich with the culture and history of its native people. Make sure to take time to visit the Museum of the Cherokee Indian to learn more the history of the Native Americans and make sure to go to the local shops for authentic souvenirs. Looking for some extra fun, make sure to visit Harrah Casino.

5. Asheville’s Food Scene:

Asheville is for foodies like us. There are many places to try from farm-to-table restaurants, food trucks, and breweries. As we mentioned before, the city is known for its craft beer scene.

6. Biltmore Village:

Stroll through Biltmore Village, a charming neighborhood with historic architecture, charming shops, and delicious restaurants and cafes. Right outside of the Biltmore Estate, it’s a great place to shop for souvenirs and Asheville staples.
